Sketching in the Garden

We are in the process of finishing our garden at the moment, building vegetable beds before the weather turns so that we can get some crops nestled in the soil over the winter. I’ve been completely inspired by the wonderful Helen Stephens to document the process. Doing away with the idea of perfectionism in the sketchbook is so liberating, and allows you to quickly capture important details.  Bags of sand lying in dewy grass that needs a mow; a fork leaning up against a stack of plastic chairs; a row of nasturtiums with their flowers like LED lights. Above all it means you can just have fun making marks. Helen’s website is stuffed with resources and inspiration for illustrators, and I can heartily recommend going and having a squizz at it if you haven’t already.
